Welcoming a New Month & Working Alongside Tunde Adefioye!

This year, I’ve been learning and exchanging knowledge as the Assistant Director alongside the fantastic Tunde Adefioye for a CYC / YI (Young Identity) collaboration:OLD TOOLS > NEW MASTERSNEW FUTURES’. We have been asking ourselves what possibilities postcoloniality brings and what decolonization really looks like here in the UK.

I’ve been lucky enough to accompany the creative team to watch Inua Ellams ‘Barbershop Chronicles’, had the pleasure of reading Bell Hooks, Audre Lorde, Stuart Hall and Gloria Wekker (again), attending private galleries, screenings and other performances including Thick Time at The Whitworth, Chuck Gallery, a tour with the Curators of Speech Acts at Manchester Art Gallery, an intimate conversations with Linda Brogan  and  The Reno Excavation Project Team as well as spending time with the wonderful Jackie Hagan and Bonnie Schwarz.  We also received extra special talks from University lecturers Erinma Ochu (Salford University) and Rob Drummond (Manchester Metropolitan University).

The insightful young theare-makers and poets have been inspiring the whole creative team with their personal insights and knowledge around the subjects of intersectionality, decolonization, language and power.  We are nearing in the rehearsal stages of the process and will be devising the show using the practical and theoretical teachings for an interactive show at a super special secret location…I hope to see you there!
